OCU puts on a Chapel service at 1 p.m. every Thursday in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel.
This year, the Chapel worship team–especially the Rev. Rod Newman–has hit their stride.
The messages in the sermons have been spot-on with the happenings of campus and have been motivating for everyone in attendance.
The team was instrumental in bringing speaker Eboo Patel to campus and promoting inter-religious dialogue.
Recent worship services featured jazz groups, the OCU Bass Ensemble, many of the different OCU choirs, and a countless assortment of instruments.
They even talked about sex last week!
The chapel’s current mission opportunity will culminate at the Nov. 7 Thanksgiving service.
A Cloth of Remembrance is traveling around campus (Clara E. Jones Administration Building, Walker Center for Arts and Sciences, Meinders School of Business, Wanda L. Bass Music Center, Sarkey Law School, McDaniel Univeristy Center, chapel) for the OCU community to decorate.
Members of the community are asked to write the names of loved ones who have passed on before us.
Accompanying the Cloth of Remembrance will be cards that say, “I’m thankful for OCU because…” and a blank space for all to write in their answer.
During the Nov. 7 service, the Cloth of Remembrance will be adorning the altar while the cards will be positioned around the chapel.
The chapel building is the spiritual center of campus.
I hope that all reading this would really consider taking an active role in being a part of this beautiful community while on your spiritual journey.
