OCU is hosting Homecoming, a competition with events including banner, window, and lip sync this week.
The theme for this year’s Homecoming is “Start.”
Homecoming kicked off Thursday.
The banners designed by each participating organization were revealed Thursday during kickoff in Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center.
The window painting party and competition was Sunday outside of the caf. The windows will remain painted until Saturday, when competing organizations will be required to clean them.
“I love to see the windows outside the caf,” said Thad Ernst, president of the Student Activities Council and head of the Homecoming committee.
“That’s one of my most favorite events, and I love that we do that as a school.”
Lip sync is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday in Freede Wellness Center. Competing organizations write, choreograph and perform a short skit to a pre-recorded track. Floats also are due at noon Friday and will be on the quad through Saturday.
Phi Mu, the new sorority on campus, will not be competing in every event.
They painted a window and will perform a lip sync Friday. The organization plans to compete in every event next year.
There will only be one Homecoming basketball game, instead of the two that were played last year.
The women’s team will be on the road.
The men’s team is playing Campion Baptist College at 2 p.m. in Abe Lemons Arena in Freede Wellness Center.
Participants look forward to the events.
“I’m looking forward to new experiences and developing better relationships with my fraternity brothers,” said Stephen Lashley, university studies freshman and Lambda Chi Alpha member.
Organizations work hard to prepare for the final two events.
“It’s just late nights singing and dancing, working on the float and the lip sync together,” said Sarin West, acting junior and Gamma Phi Beta member. “And it’s just such a great time.”
