Phi Mu completed their formal pledging ceremony Sept. 22.
It was the first ritual for the newest Greek colony on campus.
The ritual signified the members’ lifelong support to the sorority.
OCU’s Phi Mu colony has 40 pledges. They will become a chapter Nov. 9 during the pledges’ initiation ceremony.
Until initiation, the pledges will complete the necessary requirements for membership.
“Ritual is always something that is very reverent,” said Elise Bradshaw, Phi Mu Chapter Consultant. “It was our first ritual ceremony, so it kind of prepared them for that mindset of ritual.”
Phi Mu’s National Philanthropy Day is Oct. 21.
The colony will host a bake sale outside the caf to raise money for OKC Compassion, a local charity that assists disadvantaged Oklahomans.
Phi Mu Colony President Lilly Lantigua said she enjoyed attending campus events with her Phi Mu sisters.
“We had a social event with FIJI, we joined up with Kappa Sigma’s philanthropy week, and we went to Pancake Palooza as Phi Mus.” Lantigua said.
“Our main goal is to get involved around campus as much as we can and show our appreciation for how much support they have shown us,” Bradshaw said.
The pledges’ twin reveal party was Oct. 6. The women received their twin sisters and bonded together as a colony.
“I’m really glad I joined because I’m meeting a bunch of girls that I wouldn’t have met otherwise, especially underclassmen,” said Shelby Brown, acting senior. “The more friends you make, the better experience you have.”
The sorority is gradually making its mark on campus.
“We could not be any more pleased with the women we have,” Bradshaw said.
“They are amazing. They are really involved around campus.”
