Student Senate passed a resolution that addresses the maintenance of laundry facilities for campus residents.
A resolution is a formal way for students to communicate their wishes to administration.
Theresa Hottel, chairwoman of student services committee in Student Senate, is the resolution’s primary author.
“This particular resolution is dealing with the upkeep of laundry facilities here on campus, which students have identified for a long time as something of concern to them,” Hottel said. “They’re not law.
“We can’t make the administration do anything, but they’re just formal, very strong, suggestions.”
The resolution was sent to Dr. Rick Hall, vice president for student affairs, and will go from there to whatever department he thinks appropriate.
“It affects all students or anyone who does laundry on campus,” Hottel said. “It would affect the way that housing and RAs deal with laundry.”
One of the focuses of the resolution is reimbursement for charges made when a machine is broken, which Hottel said is something students have expressed great concern about.
“It’s important to realize that not everything in the resolution will go into effect,” Hottel said. “Those are our proposals.”
The resolution can be found here.
“I would really strongly suggest that students read the text of the resolution if they can,” Hottel said. “It could directly pertain to them, and they do want to know that one, SGA is doing their best to advocate for them, and two, to you know be involved and see that that advocacy is actually accurately represented.”
Students see the benefits of the resolution.
“It’s never happened to me, but my friends pay for loads all the time and then the machine doesn’t work,” said Amy Button, music theater junior. “I think that OCU could greatly benefit from changes to the laundry facilities.”
