The intramural sports season for all OCU students and employees has kicked off.
Flag football season is in session.
Other sports this year include sand volleyball, kickball, dodgeball, table tennis, basketball, and soccer.
“We have a lot ideas that we’re going to bring in,” said Nick Stowers, assistant director for student life, intramural sports and recreation.
“I plan on doing another kickball tournament soon, hopefully on a Saturday.”
The intramural sports program is open to all current students and employees of OCU who possess current school IDs.
Stowers said he hopes to go all online in the next year with the registration process.
“Usually when we have an event coming up, we’ll have a table out in front of the caf,” Stowers said, “The best thing to do is come to the fitness center to get a registration form.”
Typically students sign up as a team, but if individuals show interest in playing, Stowers is willing to help.
“Most of the time, if you just come to me ahead of time, I can find you a team,” Stowers said.
Because registration is free, the intramural sports program does not offer cash prizes.
Instead, they offer champion shirts to the winners.
“That’s the way we did it when I was in college, and I loved getting shirts to win,” said Stowers. “So far, I haven’t had any complaints. In the future I may add something to that.”
The Intramural Sports program also supplies referees for other organization’s sporting events.
Students like the organization Stowers has brought to the program.
“It’s getting better. The last year was a little bit disorganized because it was like a transition year,” said Mike Manning, business finance junior and flag football player.
“There’s no grey area anymore.”
