As the academic year begins, the campus community mourns the loss of student Amanda Starz.
Starz, 20, was killed in a car wreck Aug. 12 along with four other members of the summer musical production Texas.
The crash occurred near Dumas, Texas, about 40 miles north of Amarillo.
The dance performance senior from Timonium, Md., performed in dance productions at OCU including The American Spirit Dance Show, Home for the Holidays and Student Choreography Show.
Starz was performing in Texas, a musical performed every summer in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The show is in its 48th year.
Starz’s biography in the show’s program stated that “she would like to thank her parents for their unconditional love and support as well as her dance teacher Carrie Hammond for inspiring her, instilling a love of dance in her, and encouraging her to pursue her dreams.”
President Robert Henry addressed the campus community via email following the wreck.
“We are a family here at Oklahoma City University, and words cannot express the sadness we feel for the loss of one of our own,” the email read. “I know many of you are hurting over the loss of our dear and talented friend and classmate.”
