When snow blankets the campus in a blanket layer of white, students embrace the rare opportunity for a perfect snow day filled with laughter, comfort, and a touch of nostalgia.
A snow day offers the ideal mix of outdoor adventure and indoor relaxation, from snowball fights to cozy cups of hot chocolate.
For some, the magic begins the moment they step outside. “My ideal snow day is seeing snow coating the grass,” said Brady Harrell. “I love snow crunching under my feet and the gentle breeze of flakes falling from on high. Snowball fights, snowmen, snow angels. Warm hot Mexican chocolate and a big serving of whipped cream. The feeling of fun and love that comes from a snow day.”
The joy of a snow day often brings out the inner child in many, with students flocking to open spaces to build snowmen, test their aim in snowball fights, or simply take in the peaceful beauty of falling snow.
The crisp winter air and the sound of laughter echoing across campus create a unique kind of energy that only a snow day can bring.
For others, the perfect snow day is as much about rest and comfort as it is about outdoor fun.
“For me, the perfect snow day always starts with sleeping in,” said Riordan Banks. “After waking up at a reasonable hour, I like to make myself a nice breakfast and something warm to drink, like coffee or hot chocolate. After that, I put on my warm clothes and go out to the quad with friends to have fun in the snow—either building a snowman, making snow angels, or having a snowball fight. After this, I usually get into my PJs and watch a comforting movie before heading to bed.”
There’s something special about retreating indoors after an afternoon in the cold.
The transition from freezing temperatures to the warmth of a cozy dorm room or apartment makes simple pleasures, like a soft blanket, a favorite movie, or a steaming mug of cocoa, even more comforting.
Wachipi Hanelryck shares a similar sentiment about balancing outdoor fun with relaxation. “For me, the perfect snow day is all about sleeping in, enjoying a warm drink, and then spending time outside with friends,”
Hanelryck said. “Afterward, I like to unwind with a good movie and relax for the rest of the day.”
A snow day offers something for everyone, whether it’s the thrill of an unexpected day off, the beauty of snow-covered landscapes, or the cozy comforts that follow.
For some students, it’s a day to embrace the cold, while for others, it’s a chance to indulge in warmth and relaxation.
No matter how it’s spent, the perfect snow day always carries a sense of joy, connection, and just a little bit of winter magic.
