This past weekend, audiences got to enjoy a delightful world of wit, charm, and hilarity in the production of She Stoops to Conquer presented by the OCU School of Theatre.
Under the direction of D. Lance Marsh, the show featured OCU’s incredibly talented theatre students in this rendition of Oliver Smith’s classic comedy.
The play was absolutely delightful from start to finish. It was evident that the cast had truly done their research to fully bring to life the world of 18th-century England.
Everything from the costumes, set design, and mannerisms truly reflected authenticity, which created an immersive experience for the audience.
She Stoops to Conquer is a comedy in five acts. The remarkable performers in this theatre production told a story of misunderstanding and mistaken identity, which obviously led to a multitude of hilarious moments that greatly entertained the audience and kept them begging for more.
Involving two young suitors, Charles Marlow (Santiago Arias) and George Hastings (Kevin Alvarado), the play followed Kate Hardcastle (Cami Kristoff) as she “stoops to conquer” Marlow by pretending to be a barmaid and winning his affection.
All this while, Hastings works to elope with Kate’s cousin Constance (Sophia Zafiridis) who is, for majority of the play, betrothed to another man.
This play mocks the sentimental comedies and class divisions of the 18th century, which was portrayed astonishingly by the talented students.
Not only was the comedy of the actual storyline incredibly well done, but so was the side comedy of the performers playing to the audience.
Congratulations once again to the incredible and talented cast and crew of “She Stoops to Conquer”!
