On March 14, University Worship was structured a little differently than usual. Instead of rows of chairs, tables took their place.
After the devotional led by Rev. Dr. Lisa Wolfe and a music offering by the Worship Singers led by Dr. Melissa Plamann, the time turned into a loving act of service.
On the right side of the sanctuary, there were tables with materials to make lunch packs: PB & J ingredients, chips, and a bottle of water. These lunches were given to the Lazarus Community and individuals experiencing homelessness.
On the left side, the tables were lined with hygiene essentials. These hygiene kits went to Harding Fine Arts Academy for students in need.
Instead of treating the project like an assembly line, volunteers were encouraged to travel with the kit or lunch from start to finish.
After assembling the kit, that individual wrote an encouraging note and prayed for its impact on the receiver.
This worship service allowed for a time of reflection.
Oftentimes, students at Oklahoma City University can feel like they are living in a bubble and not always connected to the outside world. This opportunity shed new light on the needs of those struggling remarkably close to campus.
