On Feb. 18, Oklahoma City University had the privilege of hosting its annual spring powwow in the Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center.
The Oklahoma City Princesses Honor Powwow took place from 2-10 pm and was sponsored by the Changing Winds Cultural Society. The powwow was hosted by the OCU Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Native American Society and the Native American Law Student Association.
The event was free and open to the public. There was group dancing, food, vendors, raffles, a cake walk and more.
The powwow honored Aurianna Jones and Jaylee Mule, 2023-24 Miss Indian Oklahoma City and Jr. Miss Indian Oklahoma City, respectively.
The event attracted a large crowd and lasted for several hours, even lasting beyond its scheduled end time.
Many attended wearing traditional cultural attire and partook in dancing throughout the day.
The night ended with competitions for select styles of dance. The age categories ranged from toddlers all the way up to adults.
Dinner was provided to all attendees, and concessions were sold throughout the event.
The event was an incredible celebration of the Native American cultures, especially of those tribes here in Oklahoma.
