A new scholarship is emerging at Oklahoma City University, and one of the largest Coca-Cola bottlers in the U.S. is sponsoring it.
A $75,000 donation was made by Coca-Cola Southwest and it will provide many opportunities for first-generation students to pursue a higher education.
The Coca-Cola Southwest Beverage First-Gen Scholarship will provide scholarships and book stipends for eight first-generation students for the following five semesters.
During their time at OCU, students will serve as interns with different departments across campus. This includes the OCU Office of Career Services, Office of the Dean of Students, Office of Student Engagement, Office of Religious Life and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Students interested in this scholarship will submit a scholarship application. From there, the supervisor from the respective departments will oversee the selection process and choose the recipients of the scholarships.
These internships will offer different insights into how each department operates and help students learn essential skills for their academic and future professional careers.
This scholarship serves as a testament to first-generation students by fostering an inclusive environment, helping first-generation students have the ability to grow and empowering the next generation of leaders.
For more information about the scholarship, contact Dean of Students, Dr. Levi Harrel-Hallmark at 405-208-6287 or ljharrel@okcu.edu.
