A ‘Lessons in Leadership’ panel discussion will be held in the Great Hall on Feb 20 from 1-2 p.m. to celebrate Black History and Heritage Month.
‘Lessons in Leadership’ will feature the Clara Luper Legacy Committee, a group whose mission is to educate on the civil rights movement and keep the story and legacy of schoolteacher and civil rights activist Clara Luper alive.
OCU’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director, Danielle Pullen, is also on the Clara Luper Legacy committee.
Clara Luper was one of the first individuals to be at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement and is best known for her contribution to one of the first sit-in movements.
She and the NAACP Youth Council led and planned a sit-in at Katz Drug Store in downtown Oklahoma City in 1958 to protest segregation in Oklahoma and throughout the country.
The panelists include Marilyn Luper Hildreth, Joyce Henderson, Joyce Jackson and Larry Jeffries, some of the first individuals to participate in one of the first-ever sit-in movements.
This event will spark engaging conversations about various topics, such as civil rights, advocacy, leadership and more.
Join Oklahoma City University on Feb 20 for a ‘Lesson in Leadership” that will leave a lasting impact on the OCU community.
