For the 2024 Oklahoma City University Wimberly School of Religion’s Neustadt Lecture, OCU has partnered with the Jewish Theatre of Oklahoma to present “Meaningless,” an interpretation of Ecclesiastes.
“Meaningless” is a one-man show performed by Rodney Brazil, an OKC-based actor, director and writer, who helped adapt the book of Ecclesiastes into play format, along with Emily Etherton.
The Neustadt Lectures were established by Walter and Dolores Neustadt in 1983 to teach how the Judaic religion has contributed to Western civilization highlighting Hebrew Scriptures, Judaic thought and Jewish ethics and art.
Instead of focusing on the scholarly discussion based on the book of Ecclesiastes, Brazil and Etherton chose to harness the journey of the text, taking the audience through an exploration of life’s biggest questions.
Along with the performances of the play on Feb 17 at 8:00 p.m. and Feb 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre located in the Wanda L. Bass School of Music, there will also be a preview of the play on Feb 15 at 1:00 p.m. during OCU’s University Worship in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel.
The preview will include dialogue by Dr. Lisa Wolfe, the Endowed Chair of Hebrew Bible.
Tickets are available on the Jewish Theatre of Oklahoma’s website, but are free for OCU students, faculty and staff.
