The first School of Theater show of the spring 2024 semester is Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic!
Puffs is the perfect show for all Harry Potter fans out there. It is a hilarious play that gently mocks the series and makes clever jokes that only true Potter fans will get.
Puffs is a parody of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, following Wayne Hopkins, a nerdy boy from New Mexico that discovers he is a wizard from England.
From there, he goes to a wizarding school where he makes some friends and learns some magic. Wayne Hopkins is placed into the Puffs: a group of well-meaning, loyal rejects. This play shows how the Puffs interact with each other in believable dynamics.
Over his seven years in wizarding school, Wayne will try to learn magic, not have his life ruined by his four-eyed nemesis, and not get hurt in a dangerous place for unsupervised children.
This play will take you through both the hysterical and comical, and the dark and emotional moments of being a wizarding student.
The cast, led by Jesse Gierman as Wayne, returned to campus early to get in a few extra rehearsals before classes began to prepare to bring the wonderful world of magic to OCU.
This show is supported by a design and production team comprised of faculty, guest artists and student designers including scenic design by Jason Foreman, costume design by Natalie Jacobson, lighting design by Ivy Walker, sound design by Jacob Henry and props by Amanda Schnake. The stage manager for this show is Amelia McKey with assistants Beth Westfall and Sara Ramirez-Correal.
Tickets are available now both online and in the box office located in the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment. The show dates are Feb 1-4.
