On Jan 12, the University’s esports community gathered at the Starcade for the Spring 2024 Esports Kickoff Huddle.
The Esports Kickoff Huddle is an event that happens at the beginning of each semester and allows new students who are interested in esports the chance to introduce themselves and become familiar with the esports program on campus while also meeting some of the current players.
Additionally, the event acts as a way of ‘kicking off’ the new semester of esports competition for the players. It gives the players something to look forward to and gets them hyped for their next chapter in esports.
Offering a stacked selection of games for the spring 2024 semester, with titles like League of Legends, Overwatch 2 and Valorant, there was something for everyone looking to get involved in the esports scene.
Incoming students at the event also got to learn information about potential scholarships that might assist them on their esports journey at OCU.
Along with those looking to join the competitive roster, there were even opportunities for students to assist with esports casting and streams. There were many options for participation in the production aspect of esports.
Typically, more new students are expected during the fall semester, but this semester there were still a few new faces in attendance at the event.
Overall, the event was a great place for interested students to become acclimated to the esports program and build excitement for this semester’s esports endeavors. Esports director Connor Knudsen stated that this semester’s Kickoff Huddle event “was a success!”
Although the next Esports Kickoff Huddle will not be held until next semester, any students interested in becoming involved with esports are encouraged to reach out to esports director Connor Knudsen or visit the Starcade to learn more.
