Oklahoma City University’s men’s and women’s rowing teams have ended their fall seasons and look forward to their spring seasons with three regattas down and three to go.
Both teams have competed in the OCU Head of the Oklahoma Regatta which took place on the Oklahoma River in OKC, the Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River in Massachusetts and the Wichita Frostbite Regatta on the Little Arkansas River in Wichita, Kansas.
The men’s team was dominant in the Head of the Oklahoma Regatta, sweeping the men’s collegiate races with a victory in the varsity 8+, the varsity 4+, the freshman 8+, the freshman 4+, the varsity 2-, and the varsity 1x.
Additionally, the OCU men’s team won most of the men’s open events taking home a victory in every event except for the 4x and 1x.
Through these victories, the team was able to bring home the Ronald J. Norick Cup, going to the winner of the men’s collegiate 8+, as well as the William Schnittman Cup, going to the winner of the men’s collegiate 4+.
The men’s teams are well acquainted with these awards having won the Norick Cup six times over the past seven years, as well as hoisting the Schnittman Cup nine times out of the past ten years.
The men’s team made OCU history at the Head of the Charles Regatta by sending an 8+ boat to compete.
The women’s team walked away with one win at the Head of the Oklahoma Regatta where senior Ruthie Lacy won the Women’s Open 1x 500-meter Grand Final.
Lacy continued the season in the lightweight 2x with freshman Lucia Oney at the Head of the Charles Regatta where the pair placed second out of all the collegiate crews competing.
The teams will kick off their spring seasons in March with the OCU Opening Day Regatta on the Oklahoma River in OKC, continuing with the Dad Vail Regatta on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, New Jersey, finally, rounding out their season at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey.
The men’s team is made up of sophomore, Santiago Arias, junior, Jack Austin, senior, Taylor Broussard, sophomore, Kyle Brown, sophomore, Victor Castaneda, sophomore, Cody Cobb, sophomore, Elias Dahl, sophomore, Jack Fruehwirth, freshman, Joseph Fruehwirth, freshman, Pavle Glisic, sophomore, Keaton Knopp, freshman, Vojin Kovacevic, freshman, Dylan McGowen, sophomore, Corban Melder, junior, Aidan Moriarty, freshman, Ayden Ressler, freshman, Wren Rice, freshman, Ethan Romburgh, graduate student, Andrija Simeunovic, senior, Todor Stankovic and freshman, Marc Wudick.
The women’s team is comprised of freshman, Tristian Hill, senior, Ruthie Lacy, freshman, Aunna Magill, sophomore, Laura Muse, sophomore, Kathryn Nickle, freshman, Lucia Oney and graduate student Sarah Tyree.
Both teams are led by head coach Cory Conzemius.
