The Oklahoma City University Student Government Association and Chartwells, the school’s vendor for dining services, recently partnered to host the Campus Dining Forum, addressing Kitchen 1904, Alvin’s Market, and the cafeteria, following the November 6th senate meeting at 7 pm. Representatives from Campus Dining Services included Michael Miller, General Manager, Randy Largent, Assistant Director for Food Services and Marc Warren, Executive Chef.
Several students attended, raising concerns about the changes made to the cafeteria throughout the years. Many are curious about who they should address regarding the matter.
In response, Chartwells representatives explained how rising costs post-Covid have affected their ability to balance supply and demand efficiently. In addition, they’ve been without a working dishwasher for several months, prompting them to spend nearly $40,000 monthly on disposable dining materials such as plates, cutlery, and cups.
With some students curious about Chartwells’s dietary accommodation process, questions were raised about their ability to serve students with health and religious accommodations.
The representatives assured students that they prioritize accommodating student needs but can often find it challenging to prepare food respectfully with religious accommodations.
Randy Largent added that they’d be willing to increase efforts with additional communication and support from the student body.
Many students left the forum satisfied and were encouraged to contact management if they had more concerns.
