The Student Government Association is back in full swing as they had their first Student Senate Meeting of the 2023-24 school year on September 11th, with several new members being sworn into their respective positions.
Chief Justice Sonny Tabor began the swearing-in with the Executive Cabinet. Kayla Nguyen was sworn in as the President Chief of Staff, Sophia Smith was sworn in as the Vice President Chief of Staff, Catherine Hurd was sworn in as the Secretary of DEI, Tanner Huffman was sworn in as the Secretary of Finance and Isabella Felton was sworn in as the Secretary of Public Relations.
This was followed by the swearing of the S. tudent Senators. Mace Lowrance was sworn in as a Sophomore At-Large senator, Annelise Watkins was sworn in as a Junior At-Large senator, Fares Maarouf was sworn in as a Junior At-Large Senator, Andrew Munnik was sworn in as the International senator, Emma Maki was sworn in as the Music senator, Beth Westfall was sworn in as the Greek Life senator, Kyah Alexander was sworn in as a Sophomore At-Large senator, Charli Henn was sworn in as the Theater senator, Tyler Wright was sworn in as the Humanities senator, and Ivey Johnston was sworn in as a Senior At-Large senator.
The swearing-in of new positions was finished off with the Associate Justices of the Student Court, with Kel Pinkston and Wyatt Fincher being sworn in.
The current and new senators also voted on the 2023-24 SGA Budget, which was unanimously approved by roll call.
Before adjourning, an election for the 2023-24 Speaker of the Senate was held with Senator Maddie Milks winning by majority vote and stepping into the role of Speaker of the Senate, overseeing the Student Services committee.
