At the start of every school year, Oklahoma City University hosts a weeklong new student orientation titled “Stars Week.” Stars Week brings together the entire incoming class for a week of information, tradition, and community building that is essential to OCU’s mission, and this year was no different.
Stars Week spanned Monday through Saturday with mandatory small groups and important informational sessions each day. Each evening featured a fun and exciting activity event to allow students to mingle, meet, and have fun. This year saw the first-ever Silent Disco on the Quad and continued reigning favorite, Rising Stars Open Mic/Talent Show.
An executive board comprised of Lauren Moore, Maddie Milks, Anthony Carranza, Randy Moore, Christian Kane, and Tony Giordano planned this week’s festivities in conjunction with the Office of Student Engagement headed by Allie Longoria. The team was assisted by a plethora of returning students serving as New Student Orientation Leaders, affectionately called “NSOs”, who were responsible for leading small groups and helping to bridge the gaps between the programming and the new students.
At the end of every Stars Week, the NSO groups compete in Traditions Rally, a skit-based competition teaching about an important figure in OCU history. New this year was the addition of momental OCU events or notable items into the mix of potential topics. Each group was encouraged to be as creative as they liked in their presentation in hopes of winning over the favor of the judges. This year’s competition saw skits, songs, dances, instruments, lighting shifts, and all sorts of props ranging from a money gun to fake hay and cows.
As always, Traditions Rally garnered electric energy and bonded the class of 2027 for the exciting years to come.
