Women have been and are currently being subjected to a system of inequality. This inequality can be traced to inherent biases.
This divergence of privilege can be seen both at home and in the workplace. Women are expected to play a specific role, which is not inclusive of the aspirations of all.
This is a problem that exists on a global scale, and it permeates through the very foundations of society. Cultural stereotypes found in our societies limit the achievements and freedoms of women.
While these stereotypes vary in severity, none are acceptable. A woman should be free to live the life that she chooses.
These violations against personal freedom compound in our history. Because of a disregard of their abilities and achievements, women have not always had the right to make history.
It has taken generations of strong and determined women to secure the freedoms women enjoy today. In this struggle women have made history.
We do not need to look far to see women who have invalidated these preconceptions and falsehoods.
Our alumnae have made history, and for this we should all be proud. They have shown that women are just as capable as men.
By attending this university, women at OCU have taken a step at eliminating the preconceptions that women are not worthy of an education.
Sororities are outlets for empowerment and the safeguarding of rights. They offer a sense of community and build connections that can last beyond graduation.
Women have the right to make history – and that history should be celebrated.
