On Feb. 17, Dr. Kristine Henriksen Garroway visited Oklahoma City University to give the newest edition in the Neustadt lecture series.
The Neustadt lecture series began in 1983 to educate people and allow them to get a better understanding of Judaism.
Dr. Garroway is the visiting assistant professor of Bible at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion’s Skirball Campus in Los Angeles. In 2009, Dr. Garroway earned her doctorate in Hebrew Bible and Cognate Studies at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion College in Cincinnati.
The three rounds of lectures occurred on OCU’s campus in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel Watson Lounge from 1-2 p.m. with “Uncovering the Children of Ancient Israel.” This was followed by “Children at Plat in the Hebrew Bible and Ancient Near East” from 2:30-3:45 p.m. This was followed by a move in location to the Temple B’Nai Israel, where the lecture lasted from 7-8 p.m., the lecture was titled “Things That go Bump in the Night: Ancient Texts of Danger(ous) Children.”
Masks were worn while at the lectures, and the lectures were also streamed online for people who could not attend.
The lectures coincided with the return of weekly chapel services, as one was held at 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 10, 2022. The service focused on a song and meditation in the Taizé style.
