Homelessness is a problem in our community, and we don’t need to go very far to see it.
Victims of homelessness can be seen on the streets surrounding our university.
This problem exists throughout the world.
Homeless individuals are often the victims of dehumanization and blame.
Falling victim to homelessness does not mean an individual has lost their humanity.
When individuals dehumanize the homeless, they lose their humanity.
We must understand that victims of homelessness are not the problem, the fact they are homeless is the problem.
People end up homeless for a variety of reasons and many of them are not the fault of the victim.
Quite often the situation is out of their control.
That’s why it is important that communities rally to get homeless individuals the support they need.
There are many false preconceptions of who a homeless person is.
Not all of them are true and others may not apply to every situation.
Homelessness can impact a wide spectrum of people.
The wrong turn in life could lead anyone into this situation.
Due to its scale, it’s difficult to imagine a solution.
We must take the necessary steps throughout our careers to respect homeless individuals.
A solution to permanently end homelessness may not be found in our lifetime.
But at the very least, we can build a foundation for progress and in doing so change lives.
