Gallery: Making Origami Bats

Boo!

Any space can be spooky with this quick tutorial :)

Step 1: Start with a piece of paper of your choice. (I chose black to add to the spook-factor).

Step 2: Now we need to make the paper a square! Fold the paper until one corner matches up to the other side: making a triangle. Cut the extra paper that is not a part of the triangle. (the extra paper can become smaller bats!)

Step 3: Wow! Look! It’s a square! And you already have the first fold done.

Step 4: Now fold the paper into another triangle, but on the opposite diagonal.
You can tell it’s right if there is a crease running down the middle of your triangle.

Step 5: Fold the long edge of the triangle down about halfway.
It kind of looks like an upside-down hat or boat.

Step 6: Take one side of the long, folded triangle and fold it so it points downwards.

Step 7: Repeat on the other side. If you want, you can stop here and skip to step 10 to have a upside down, sleeping bat.

Here is an example of what that could look like!

Step 8: For a bat in flight, however, fold a “wing” back towards its original direction.

Step 9: Repeat on the other side!

Step 10: Okay so this is normally a “no-no” in origami but pull out your scissors!
Cut a small diagonal line from the edges of your bat’s head to make the ears.
You can cut out or fold back the middle part so the ears can be seen better.

This is what it might look like!

Step 11: Re-crease all of your folds so your bat has a bit more spunk!

Step 12: All done! You’ve made a super spooky bat you can stick anywhere!

All you need is some tape!
