Cokesbury Court Apartments will receive new bedroom furniture over the summer.
Casey Kreger, director of housing and residence life, said Cokesbury apartments will provide apartments with a full XL bed and a brand-new desk, chair and dresser set to enhance the functionality of the living spaces.
“Overall, the goal of the space is to allow students to increase functionality, offer more storage, increase the bed size and enhance the aesthetic of the space,” Kreger said.
The new full XL bed will be accompanied by a matching metal and wood laminate finish to increase aesthetic sensibility and prevent wall damage, along with a headboard and a bacterial/fungal resistant corresponding mattress.
Kreger said the two dressers will be placed under the bed for storage space. Students will also have the option to stack them and place them elsewhere.
“When it came to the desk, we understand that some students use it for homework and others do not,” said Kreger. “Our goal is to provide a minimalistic desk to allow students the opportunity for the furniture piece to be multi-functional. Students can use it as a desk, TV stand, etcetera in their room.”
The chair will complement the flexible nature of the desk, with a two-position feature which will allow students to lean back if they choose.
“Housing is always looking for ways in which we can best serve our students,” Kreger said. “Annual surveys have said that students wanted changes in their bedroom furniture, especially with their beds, which they thought were too small.”
Arissa Brown, music theater sophomore, said she is enthusiastic about the development.
“I live in Methodist Hall, and part of what hung me up this year about moving to Cokesbury was the small bed,” said Brown. “I think that making the bed bigger to fit the body of a college student and scaling the other furniture to fit was a really wise decision. I feel better about moving into Cokesbury next year because of these adjustments.”
