The Office of Enrollment Management is shifting to account for the recent departure of Leslie Berger, former senior director of communications.
Kevin Windholz, vice president for enrollment management and university communications, said the responsibilities of senior director of communications will be divided to create two new positions.
“The position of senior director of communications functioned as senior to internal and external communications director, as well as marketing for OCU’s undergraduate, graduate and law schools”, Windholz said. “The position will be split into two new positions, including a marketing director in addition to the communications director”.
Windholz said candidates for the new positions need to be great communicators and strong marketers.
“I am confident that the addition of these two positions to replace the one would allow for better use of funding and allow the department’s outreach to extend further,” Windholz said.
Teegin Groves, economics/business administration freshman, said he had concerns about administrators, such as Leslie Berger, leaving the university.
“I’m concerned with her leaving OCU because it seems like a bad time to be hiring. I don’t want to see a bunch of administrative personnel leave,” Groves said.
The university has not made a public decision as to who will fill these positions, and no new spending dollars were utilized in creating the new positions, Windholz said.
“The best way to tackle the current situation at OCU from a communications standpoint is to be completely transparent,” Windholz said. “People trust what you’re doing if you keep them informed.”
Windholz said adjustments are being made within the communications structure to account for increased digital marketing tactics due to COVID-19.
“The budget at OCU for marketing is not expendable. However, the use of technology will hopefully aid in the dollar going further. This is especially pertinent during the pandemic as officials have to be creative when it comes to new student marketing,” he said. “Campus tours have to be digitalized, and campus photography will increase as an effect to cope with social distancing to slow the spread.” Windholz said.
