Housing and Residence Life has been implementing safety precautions for students still on campus.
Casey Kreger, director of Housing and Residence Life, said the normal campus cleaning processes have been changed to accommodate for COVID-19 precautions.
“When it’s come to this situation here, they have taken what they’ve done there in the normal process, and they have amped it up a bit,” Kreger said.
Kreger also said common areas and stairwells have been cleaned more often.
“They’re able to be cleaned more often, and they’re checked on more periodically,” Kreger said.
Kreger also said the company Blackmon Mooring came in to do extensive cleaning on specific areas after a student tested positive for COVID-19.
“Any areas that may have been in proximity or any areas that may have been infected were cleaned by another company off campus that came in and did a special cleaning treatment for issues like COVID-19,” Kreger said.
Kreger said the remaining students on campus have all been moved into Cokesbury Court Apartments.
“All students in emergency housing that were approved to stay were all consolidated down into apartments in Cokesbury, and so within those, some students that remained in their space, they were cut down on roommates so there were less people in an apartment,” Kreger said.
Kreger also said the visitation policy has changed for students in emergency housing.
“Our visitation policy basically went away, and we’re limiting visitors in Cokesbury that students can have,” Kreger said.
Macey Trussell, music theater/vocal performance sophomore, is staying in emergency housing with her husband, Simon Keightley.
Trussell said despite the visitation rule, she has been seeing her best friend on campus.
“My best friend is here, and if I didn’t have time with her, I’d be going insane,” Trussell said.
Trussell also said picking up packages has become difficult now that the office is closed.
“You have to call the emergency phone in order to get your package,” Trussell said.
Trussell said she feels bad for the RA’s still on campus.
“We have to bug the RA on call all the time just to pick up our package,” Trussell said.
Kreger said Housing and Residence Life is doing everything they can to protect the students.
“Our main focus is the safety of our students on campus right now, so we’re trying to take every precaution we can,” Kreger said.
