After weeks of COVID-19-related articles, this week I decided to try and return to some sense of normalcy with a typical restaurant review.
This past weekend, I decided to break up the monotony of my mediocre home cooked meals by treating myself to a nice Sunday brunch. Nearly all of the OKC brunch staples like Cafe Kacao and Sunnyside Diner are currently closed, which left me with only one real option, Hatch Early Mood Food. So, come along with me as I describe what has arguably been the highlight of my “coronamester” so far.
First of all, I need to talk about the to go mimosas (or ToGoSas), because this absolutely blew my mind. For $10 right now you can get an entire bottle of wine and a huge cup of orange juice from Hatch, and then you can do the actual mimosa assembly at home. I just turned 21 back in January, so right now I’m really into exploring the best alcoholic options in OKC. And maybe this is just because I haven’t left the house much recently, but something about having a huge bottle of wine delivered straight to my car just felt like the epitome of luxury. Was the wine good quality wine? I have no idea. All wine tastes the same to me. But, I just love that to-go mimosas are a thing and they are a 10/10 in my book.
I think going to a breakfast place and only ordering alcohol is socially frowned upon, so I have to talk about the food. I’ve been using quarantine as an excuse to eat healthier, so I’m the idiot that ordered a salad from a brunch place. It was a good salad, but I assume that very few people care about the quality of the salads at a brunch joint. Luckily, I was dining with my family, and I am a vulture who will happily steal bites of their food. My mom ordered the bananas foster pancakes and the bananas and caramel just worked so awesomely together. If you’re the type of person that likes super sweet, indulgent breakfasts, I would highly recommend these. My sister ordered the french toast, and I managed to steal a bite of that as well. Just like with the pancakes, it was sugary, indulgent and all-around delicious.
But wait, there’s more! Right now, all curbside orders at Hatch are 50% off, so most of their entrees are in the 5-7 dollar range. Two of my favorite things in this world are bargain hunting and supporting local businesses, and I got to do both while drinking mimosas! It honestly doesn’t get much better than that.
I didn’t necessarily start the week intending to do a restaurant review. But after having such an awesome experience with Hatch, I had to rave about it to someone. Ever since this whole quarantine thing started, my sleep schedule has been completely messed up, and I’ve pretty much worn the same three outfits over and over. I haven’t really had many luxurious moments. But for some reason, having a proper brunch made me feel like royalty. It wasn’t much, but in these times, I continually find myself being impressed by the smallest indulgences. So, if you want a small distraction from the chaotic world around us, I strongly recommend ordering brunch from Hatch.
