Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I assume you’re aware of all the restrictions that have been placed on restaurants and bars due to the coronavirus (COVID-19). Because of this, I haven’t really been able to visit restaurants and review them like usual. So instead, I’ve been using this time to enjoy food in other ways, such as cooking new recipes and watching food videos on YouTube. For this week’s column, I’ve decided to share some of my favorite food-related YouTube channels to help ease some of your quarantine boredom.
Binging with Babish
Two of my favorite things on Earth are movies and food, and this YouTube channel combines both perfectly. The entire channel is dedicated to recreating food from famous movies and TV shows, like the sea bass from Jurassic Park, the ram-don from Parasite or the Krabby Patty from SpongeBob. The steps and ingredients are explained clearly in a way that makes it easy to recreate many of the foods at home. But personally, my favorite episodes are the ones where the food is so over the top that it would be impractical to make at home, like the pizza ball from the Eric Andre Show or the “every meat burrito” from Regular Show.

Bon Appétit
This channel has sort of a cult following now, so there’s a good chance that you’ve heard of it before. But, in case you haven’t, this is the YouTube channel for the food magazine of the same name. It features a variety of different series which are hosted by a very likeable cast of chefs and bakers. Perhaps the most well-known of the series is Gourmet Makes where a pastry chef will attempt to make gourmet versions of mass-produced food such as Twinkies and Girl Scout cookies.

Delish
This channel is really similar to Bon Appétit, however, it is not as well-known. Just like with Bon Appétit, the channel centers around different food-related series. My favorite series is probably Iconic Eats, where the host travels to famous amusement parks, and then she tries to eat all of their most iconic food within one afternoon.

Food Insider
When planning a trip, this is one of the first places I go to for inspiration. This channel produces very short videos which highlight some of the most eye-catching food from some of the most popular vacation destinations. Its sister channel, Travel Insider, is also great for vacation planning. Together, these channels can help satisfy any wanderlust you may have while being trapped indoors!

JunsKitchen
This guy lives with a pack of cats, and his channel is mostly comprised of videos where he cooks things for the cats, like sushi. The cats are nearly always in the background watching him cook, and occasionally they will even try to lend a paw. Overall, it’s just really cute, wholesome content that I love to unwind with.
