When I heard there was a macaron cafe in Oklahoma, I was honestly somewhat surprised. I’ve visited macaron cafes in places such as New York and southern California. However, I didn’t think such a place could fit into the culinary landscape of Oklahoma City. And yet, Cafe Disco is here to prove me wrong. I’m always down for some well made macarons, and Cafe Disco is only about 10 minutes from OCU, so I decided to stop by and give it a try this week.
The space itself was very small. Luckily, I was there by myself when business was slow so it wasn’t really an issue but I probably wouldn’t take a large group here. The menu was short and sweet. They pretty much had just macarons, coffee, and like one tea option. As I’ve previously mentioned in other reviews, I’m not much of a coffee drinker, so I just ordered three macarons as a snack. The macaron flavors ranged from the basics such as strawberry and lemon to the more exotic such as dark chocolate pomegranate and cherry blossom. I went ahead and selected a strawberry one, an earl grey and a honey lavender.
When the server was preparing my order for me, she remarked how pretty the macarons looked together, and I totally agreed. The colors were extremely vibrant, and I’ll admit I had a little too much fun taking photos of my order. I also noticed some of the macaron towers which were on display, and those were extremely aesthetically pleasing as well. In fact, this entire place just had a really cute aesthetic, from the neon sign on the wall to the modern furniture around the cafe. If you’re like me and you post way too many food photos to your Instagram story, then I would strongly recommend coming here just for the photo opportunities.
Nevertheless, most people don’t visit cafes for the aesthetics alone, so I probably should say something about the food. The macarons overall were pretty tasty, and I could tell they must have been freshly made. They were a lot softer, lighter, and noticeably less crunchy than some macarons I’ve previously had. The strawberry one lacked the overwhelming sweetness which often comes with artificial strawberry flavoring which signals to me it was probably made with some fresher ingredients. But despite having the least flavor, it was still very enjoyable. The honey lavender one was probably the most flavorful, and, unsurprisingly, it tasted overwhelmingly like lavender. In fact, it tasted just like one of my favorite beverages, the lavender London fog at Cafe Kacao. The earl grey macaron had slightly less flavor than the lavender one, and it tasted pretty much exactly like a cup of earl grey tea. Overall, all three macarons were extremely light and tasty which made them perfect for a quick afternoon snack.
As for the price, I can’t say this place is cheap. One macaron will set you back $2.25 and a box of six is $13. However, I can’t really complain because macarons are one of those foods that’s always a little pricier, especially if they are of a good quality.
Additionally, 21c is just across the street. For those who don’t know, 21c is a hotel with a free art gallery which is open 24/7. In my opinion, going to 21c to see the art and then going to Cafe Disco for some macarons would make for one of the cutest dates ever. I also came to the conclusion that a box of macarons from here would make the perfect gift for someone, especially if you don’t know the person very well. As Valentine’s Day approaches, I’ve already decided some people in my life will probably be getting macarons as a small gift from me.
Overall this was a really pleasant experience. Cafe Disco seems like a good place to go for when you want to treat yourself or as a nice date location. Additionally, the cute aesthetics of the cafe combined with the sweet and colorful macarons gave me total Valentine’s Day vibes. So in conclusion, if you’re looking for something sweet and colorful to brighten up these gray winter days then I strongly recommend the macarons at Cafe Disco.
