The Facilities Building has been spewing a mysterious mist.
Jeffrey Miles, film junior, said the mist has affected his car when he parks near the Facilities Building.
“I’ve been a commuter since freshman year,” he said. “I park in the lot behind the Facilities Building since the film school is right next to it. Anybody that’s parked over there knows when that mist falls, it coats your car and windows with this disgusting, nasty, thick residue all over your car, so you end up having to get it washed frequently.”
Miles said his car usually sits in the parking lot for 12 hours a day.
“There’s many times when I drive home that I can barely see out of my window because of the mist,” Miles said. “There’s no reason I should have to clean my car just because I parked on campus.”
Miles also said he doesn’t know what kind of chemicals could potentially be in the mist.
“I can only assume it’s coming from the AC unit on top of the building, but there has to be some sort of code against pumping random chemicals out into the world,” he said.
Katie McCollum, music junior, said although she hasn’t seen or smelled the mist, she has felt it.
“Every time I walk by that building I’ve always felt the mist and thought it was raining, but when I walked further from the building I wouldn’t feel it anymore,” McCollum said. “Nobody has really talked about it which really surprises me.”
McCollum said she doesn’t know where the mist is coming from.
“I don’t know if it’s coming from inside the building or if it’s a waste product of the building, but I think students should definitely know what it is,” McCollum said.
McCollum also said it’s important for officials to be transparent with students on the matter.
“Most of us live on campus, and we pay money to attend classes and use the university’s facilities all the time,” she said. “If the student body has questions about the school’s facilities, the university should answer them.”
Facilities staff were unavailable for comment at press time.
