A new OCU-related meme account has surfaced on Instagram.
Ocumemes2022 is a meme account on Instagram. The account’s first post was in February 2018, but the account was recently labeled as a joint account for the class of 2022. The first meme posted to the account, after approximately a year of inactivity, went up on September 1 of this year.
“This account has been hacked by a meme god,” reads the bio of the ocumemes2022 account. “You’re welcome.”
The person who runs the page is currently anonymous. Jack Supan, music theater sophomore, said many people theorize he runs the page himself.
“I’m friends with them though,” Supan said. “They texted me a screenshot of them running the page, and I was just like, ‘Wow, okay. This is some information.’ And then they said, ‘No, don’t tell.’ So I haven’t told anybody whatsoever.”
He said in order to submit memes to be posted, one can direct message the page.
“They may or may not post it,” Supan said. “I’ve sent several. Maybe some of the memes I send are a little too edgy.”
Students outside of the class of 2022 have taken interest in the page.
“It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life, and it’s very accurate,” said Sydney Turberville, acting freshman. “I believe their mission’s amazing because they just want to make everyone laugh because we’re all having a hard time. Memes, to me, are meant to bring joy and relieve stress from everyday life by taking things from everyday life and making them funny.”
Supan said people tell him to have a meme battle with the page.
“It would be in their best interest not to challenge me because I’d thrash them,” Supan said. “I have my own meme page to run.”
