The School of Theatre teamed up with Oklahoma Children’s Theatre to put on Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill A Mockingbird. The play explores the role racism and civil rights played in the U.S. in the 1930s.
The play was performed Oct. 23-29 in Burg Theater in Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center.
Megan Berning, acting junior, plays “Scout.” Andrew Lewis, acting junior, plays “Jem.” Trevor Rau, acting freshman, plays “Dill.” Devin Frost plays “Tom.” The townspeople anticipate the court hearing. Eric Starkey, “Atticus”, and Frost sit in the court room. Mike Waugh, “Bob Ewell,” Sara Byerly, “Mayella Ewell,” and Tyler Jones, acting junior and “Gilmer” sit in the court room. Cole Duffy, acting sophomore, testifies and Rau listens. Starkey and Berning discuss the events of the night. Waugh and Starkey discuss the case while Lewis eavesdrops. Waugh testifies in court. Lewis and Berning helps Rau peak through the window. Byerly takes an oath on the Bible with the help of Riley “RJ” Flud, acting freshman. Flud and Jones attempt to calm down an angry Waugh in court. Lewis holds back Berning. Dustin Dale Barlow, acting senior, plays “Link Deas.” Jones questions Frost in court. Barlow reveals to Berning, Rau and Lewis what is in his bottle. Barlow tells Berning, Rau and Lewis about his family. Starkey presents his closing argument. Starkey gets aggressive with Waugh as Lewis watches through the window. Evan Clear, theater and performance senior, plays “Calpurnia.” Berning and Lewis wait while Starkey takes an important phone call. Clear comforts Berning after bad news. Lewis and Rau say goodbye. Oliver Kennedy, acting sophomore, plays “Dr. Reynolds.” Starkey and Clear worry about “Jem.” Berning admires “Boo Radley,” played by Gareth Forsberg, acting senior. Starkey thanks Forsberg. Clear reflects on the events of the play.
