A Title IX panel will be held on campus.
Constellation, a Student Government Association initiative, will host the panel on Oct. 23.
Taylor Downey, youth ministry junior and Title IX program coordinator, said the panel will provide students with information on how to file a Title IX report, and give them the opportunity to ask questions about the process.
“We really want this to be a one-on-one experience with students,” Downey said. “We’re hoping to provide a space where people can feel comfortable enough not only to hear what we have to say, but to ask their own questions as well.”
Downey said the panel will serve as a town hall experience for students who may not know much about Title IX, or feel uncomfortable learning about it.
“It’s really important to us that everyone on campus feels safe, and knows their options,” Downey said. “We want to help to build a sense of trust between students and the university.”
KC Curry, religious education senior, said officers from the Oklahoma City University Police Department may also attend and be available for questions.
“OCUPD is a really big part of the process when someone files a Title IX report, and we think this would be a great opportunity to hear from them in person,” Curry said. “I think some people would really find comfort in that. We’re still waiting to hear back to finalize everything, but hopefully they will also be involved.”
Curry said she hopes students come away from the panel feeling more comfortable with Title IX proceedings and generally safe on campus.
“Nothing is expected from anyone who attends,” Curry said. “There will be free drinks and snacks, and everyone’s free to just sit back and listen. Really, this is the best time to hear basically anything you need to know about Title IX.”
The Constellation Title IX Open House panel will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Oct. 23 in the Great Hall in the Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center.
