Students will be able to print headshots and bound projects on campus again next fall.
PrintStar is reopening after a hiatus that began Jan. 16 when a sign was posted on the doors of the PrintStar office alerting students that the shop was closed until further notice.
The closure came after students received emails that PrintStar’s management company, RK Black, hired new personnel. An RK Black official later said PrintStar was closed because of understaffing.
The new PrintStar will continue to be managed by RK Black, said Lori Walker, director of auxiliary services. PrintStar still will offer headshot printing services and binding services, she said.
“We’re also looking at offering enhanced services,” she said.
PrintStar will receive new equipment, Walker said, including new printers, cutters, a new computer, and a faster sales system. Students will still be able to use Stars Cash to pay.
Walker said the plan is for PrintStar to open by July 1, but if not, it will be open by the beginning of the fall semester. It will be in the same location as before in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center.
“I think the student population and the campus community will be happy with the services that will be offered,” she said. “It will be worth the wait.”
Jacqueline Bennett, acting senior, said she has had difficulties printing headshots at PrintStar in the past, but she appreciates the convenience of it.
“I think mainly they need to listen to requests and what the students are telling them,” she said. “If they are able to understand requests, the students will overall be happy.”
Walker said the new PrintStar will not cost the university anything because RK Black is paying for the new additions.
“I think students will be pleasantly surprised with the new additions,” she said.
