A few lucky restaurants in Oklahoma City have been graced with the flavorful presence of Guy Fieri on the show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. One of these restaurants is Ingrid’s Kitchen on 36th and N. Youngs. In the past, I have had various pastries and cakes from Ingrid’s, but had never eaten the food. I visited this restaurant on a Tuesday morning, and was looking forward to a quiet, filling breakfast.
At 8:30 in the morning, the restaurant was practically empty. I took a minute to admire the colorfully arranged desserts in their case, and went up to the counter to order. I ordered the German breakfast with a coffee and a water; a $9.50 total. This price for a full breakfast in Oklahoma City is a rarity, so off the bat, I was impressed. I spent the time waiting for my meal by enjoying the peace and quiet, sipping my coffee and checking my email.
Overall, my experience was nice, but not anything worth raving about. I enjoyed the meal as a whole, but it wasn’t a meal I couldn’t make myself. The breakfast consisted of German meat and cheese on a house-made roll, and a side of roast potatoes. The sandwich was a little dry, but the flavors complemented each other really well. The bread was perfectly crispy yet not tough, and had a good chew. I felt very “rustic” eating such a simple breakfast in the wood-decorated interior of Ingrid’s. This was a really satisfactory meal overall. I might go here again, but there are so many other good breakfast restaurants in OKC that if I’m going to spend the money for breakfast on a weekend, I’m gonna go somewhere that’s absolutely amazing. I give Ingrid’s a 7.5/10.
