The “K” letter has disappeared from the wooden OKCU letters in the Student Leadership Center in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center.
The Involved Center’s weekly email sent out today included a report from Student Affairs, saying the K was missing from the Center. Officials said if the K is not returned by 5 p.m. Friday, then a police report will be filed.
“We are offering that if the ‘K’ is returned, no further action will take place,” the email reads. “If we do not receive the ‘K’ by Friday at 5pm (3/1/2019), we will file a police and student conduct report to start the investigation process!”
Nick Shironaka, English senior, said he didn’t understand why anyone would steal the letter.
“I just sort of thought, ‘who’d be going around taking a K?'” Shironaka said. “Like, why?”
Abby Bryan, acting junior, said she thinks it was stolen as a joke about student opinions of the new acronym.
“It seems to me like people were just trying to be funny. I don’t think it was meant out of spite or a malicious thing,” Bryan said. “I think it’s a funny thing because that’s kind of a joke, that we don’t like to use the ‘K’ when talking about OCU.”
Bryan said though the attempt was probably to be humorous, it was done without forethought of the consequences.
“I think it was probably students messing around, but I don’t think they realize the implications of it, or that they could get in trouble for that,” she said. “They should put the K back.”
