Free movie night is planned to make a return this Tuesday from 6:30-10 p.m.
The event will take place at Cinemark Tinseltown & XD, 6001 N. Martin Luther King Ave.
Tickets must be used the night of the event and will be redeemed with OCU student IDs. The first 100 students in attendance will qualify for free food and drink concessions.
For at least the past nine years, Free Movie Night was hosted at Harkins Theatres, 150 E. Reno Ave., but was moved to the new location to save money. The recurring event was canceled due to “unforeseen circumstances,” according to Student Publications archives.
Kelsey Cooper, business economics freshman, said she is excited for her first Free Movie Night.
“I’ll definitely spend it with meeting with friends to watch, and I know a lot of the other freshmen will appreciate it,” Cooper said.
Madelynn Buckman, entertainment business senior and vice president of Student Activities Council, said tickets to Tinseltown are approximately $3 cheaper per ticket than Harkins.
Trae Trousdale, mass communications sophomore and Student Government Association Greek senator, said Buckman has been working hard to restart the tradition.
“I’m really excited for the return,” Trousdale said. “We have Senate that night until 7:30 p.m., and then some of us are heading over to the theater afterwards. We have posters to get the word out.”
Trousdale said the upcoming elections will determine how the Free Movie Night tradition will continue.
“I think it is something we will continue in the future,” he said. “It’s really important to everyone on campus.”
