La Baguette Deep Deuce
After waking up on Thursday, making coffee, and crawling back into bed with said coffee, I learned that classes were cancelled for the day. To celebrate, I ventured through the “tundra” to a newly opened restaurant and cafe, called La Baguette Deep Deuce. While doing some preliminary research, I found out that this store is the second of its name (the other one is located in Edmond).
I struggled getting to the restaurant because some of the signs, indicating which side of the building the restaurant was on, were misleading. However, I didn’t have any trouble parking on 3rd and walking to the store. The cafe had a similar setup to other delis and counter-service style restaurants. The decor was clean and neat, the best part of which were the wall paintings with statements such as “rolling in the dough” and “pour some sugar on me”.
Since I took the opportunity to sleep in that morning, I missed breakfast. Instead, I ordered half a chicken ciabatta sandwich and a cup of tomato soup. The sandwich was surprisingly spicy (there was a healthy helping of jalapenos on it), and the soup wasn’t anything to write home about. I finished up with a piece of carrot cake, which was good, but nowhere near comparison to other local carrot cakes (like from Ingrid’s).
All of the servers who helped me during my visit were very pleasant and friendly. I sat in the back of the shop, so I could read my book in peace. However, despite being in the very back, there was a lot of nervous back-and-forth traffic from servers moving around the restaurant, despite the place nearly being deserted. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant for people wanting to eat alone, because I felt like I was in the way during my entire visit.
I would compare this restaurant to others like Panera, McAlister’s and La Madeleine. This restaurant serves very classic deli food and baked goods, and if that’s what you’re looking for, they have it. Nothing in particular was really outstanding, and I was a little disappointed with the overall experience. I would rate this restaurant a 6/10.
