The recent cold weather has caught students off-guard.
It snowed in Oklahoma City on Nov. 12, and classes were not canceled.
Brynna Linkous, psychology sophomore, said she was upset that classes were not canceled.
“I was honestly a little annoyed that they did not cancel class,” Linkous said. “I feel like there was enough snow sticking to the roads to make it a little dangerous, and honestly they could have done it just for the morale boost.”
Texas native Taylor Glaspie, psychology senior, said he hasn’t been handling the cold well.
“I have been dying,” he said. “Some days I refuse to leave my room, and I hibernate. My advice would be to avoid outside at all costs.”
Last semester, classes were canceled for two days due to inclement weather. The university closing affected the dress rehearsals of Mother Courage and her Children, a February Stage II production.
Rachel Necessary, acting senior, was involved with Mother Courage and her Children when school was canceled. She said they were unable to have a complete tech week for the show’s opening.
“Basically, it was great because there was no school, but it was a horrible inconvenience because we had been working so hard on Mother Courage,” Necessary said. “We never fully ran the show until our open dress/opening night. I remember there being a lot of scheduling and communication problems, but we pushed through, worked hard and put on one beautiful show despite it all.”
Giorgia Patterson, music education sophomore, is a resident of Oklahoma.
“It hasn’t gotten this cold this fast before,” Patterson said. “The last really cold winter that I remember was 2012.”
Linkous said she enjoys the cold weather in Oklahoma.
“I don’t mind walking to class when it’s chilly,” she said. “I suggest that you always check the part on the weather app where it says how cold it actually feels versus the actual temperature and I always look at the wind chill. If you don’t particularly like the cold, I definitely suggest bundling up on your way to class.”
