All of the details have been finalized for 2018 graduation.
The day will begin with the baccalaureate ceremony at 9 a.m. May 5 in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel.
The undergraduate commencement will be at 11 a.m. the same day in the Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center. Monica Hiller, elementary education senior, will begin the ceremony with a student address, and President Designate Martha Burger will follow with the commencement address.
The graduate ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. the same day and location as undergraduate. The student address will be delivered by Quincy Chapman, and Dr. Lisa Wolfe, outstanding faculty and professor of Hebrew bible, will deliver the commencement address.
Pam Bobier, assistant director of academic services, is working on the event.
“Commencement is the culmination of our students’ academic time at Oklahoma City University,” Bobier said. “As they walk across the stage, the next chapter in their life is about to begin.”
The senior class gift will be dedicated to funding more scholarships for future students.
Shannon McKenrick, senior entertainment business major, serves as student engagement coordinator.
“We have raised $593 of our $2,018 goal,” McKenrick said. “President Henry has agreed to match all gifts, meaning every contribution will be doubled.”
Donations will be accepted until the end of the semester.
Students can visit www.okcu.edu/classgift or contact Carrie Sauer, director of annual giving, at csauer@okcu.edu to donate towards the cause. Students can donate Stars Cash or have family donate on their behalf.
Casey Andrews, music theater senior, will graduate this year.
“I mean, it’s bittersweet,” Andrews said. “I am so ready to leave, it’s just going to be hard to leave such wonderful friends and faculty. I really have made a family out here in OKC.”
