Students and faculty are working to produce On the Town, the Wanda L. Bass School of Music’s final mainstage of the year.
On the Town, with music by Leonard Bernstein, will perform at 8 p.m. April 20-21 and 3 p.m. April 22 in Kirkpatrick Auditorium in Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center.
The cast and crew started rehearsing the show during the first week of March.
“It feels like everyone who’s been given a task has executed the task to its fullest potential,” said Joe Caskey, music theater/vocal performance freshman. “We talked about it as a distraction. People want to go to the theater and see something wickedly remarkable and get them away from the negative.”
On the Town is about three sailors who all fall in love with women while on 24-hour shore leave.
“It’s really just about people being able to enjoy the short amount of time they have together and make the most of it,” said Sydney Epstein, acting sophomore. “Sometimes theater is about taking us away from problems and giving us just two hours to three hours of bliss.”
Tickets range from $14-$28. There will be a director’s talk with Professor Karen Miller about 45 minutes before each show in Petree Recital Hall. There also will be a $25 meal at 6:15 p.m. April 20 in the Bass Atrium.
