The housing draft process is the same as last year. The process has changed from year to year since at least 2015.
Residence Life officials sent out an email giving directions for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 housing applications, room retention and the housing draft.
Housing applications and room retention applications are open now.
Some students who used the portal method last year said it was easy to use.
“Last year I definitely thought it was user friendly,” said Marae Narvaez, acting junior. “However, I would say it’s hard to figure out which rooms are like what in [Cokesbury Court Apartments]. Like, you can tell when a room is renovated in [Methodist Hall] because the doors are black, but you can’t tell that with Cokes at all.”
Anastasia Pellar, theater and performance freshman, said she struggled following the instructions by herself.
“The process isn’t the most fantastically explained thing through email,” Pellar said. “As a freshman rooming with upperclassmen I wasn’t entirely sure how the whole retention of a room thing was supposed to work and we all had to figure it out together.”
The link to the housing sign up application can be found here.
“It’s a fine system, just kind of annoying,” Pellar said. “I wouldn’t know what to change about it, though.”
Room retention ends this March 9 and the housing draft is from March 26-30.
“Assignments will be given on a first-come, first-served basis to all those with housing applications who do not retain their space, or go through the lottery. Assignments will be made as best as possible based off the preferences indicated in the housing application,” according to the instructions in the email.
