Marina Redlich, psychology freshman, shares her views on the Olympics.
Q: What is your favorite Olympic sport?
A: Gymnastics during the summer and ice skating during the winter.
Q: Have you watched the Olympics this year?
A: I watched us win our first gold. It was Red Gerard in men’s slopestyle. He’s super precious cause he’s only 17. I’ve watched some figure skating. The best part was when the American girl landed her triple axel.
Q: What sport would you like to add to the Olympics?
A: Cheer.
Q: If you could date any Olympic athlete, who would you choose?
A: Tom Daley, the Olympic diver, even though he’s gay.
Q: Where would you like the next Olympics to be hosted?
A: OCU would be ideal. I liked when they were in China because China is my place. I speak Chinese and want to go so badly.
Q: What is the dumbest Olympic sport?
A: The skeleton because it looks like they’re going to die. They reach 82 miles per hour, and I’m terrified.
Q: Who would you like to go to the Olympics with?
A: Sarah Keast and my mom.
Q: What you like to see in the next opening ceremony?
A: More fire and fireworks. I don’t really watch the opening ceremony, though. It’s too long.
Q: How sexy do you think the ice dancing should be?
A: Very.
Q: How do you feel about sibling ice dancers?
A: I think it’s okay. It creates a good sibling bond for the audience.
Q: What is the biggest issue with the Olympics?
A: The whole gymnastics scandal with Larry Nassar. That was awful and pretty wild.
Q: Besides the U.S., what countries are you cheering for?
A: China. I also normally like Canada.
Q: If you could compete in an Olympic sport, which one would you choose?
A: I’d probably be best at gymnastics. I’d also like to compete in figure skating. I always wished I took figure skating lessons.
Q: What song would you use for your routine?
A: Katy Perry’s “Firework.” I feel like it’s American.
