Cokesbury Court staff is hosting a winter clothing drive, collecting cold weather items for donation.
Devin Murphy, administrative assistant to housing, said this is the first time that Cokesbury has put on a clothes drive.
“It’s a little last minute, impromptu clothing drive,” Murphy said.
Murphy said any cold weather clothing item is acceptable.
“We’re looking for gloves, hats, socks, scarves, and we’ll also be taking blankets,” she said.
Kelly Pan, nursing junior, said she appreciates the drive.
“I really like that they’re having the drive, I think it’s a great idea,” Pan said.
While an email notification detailing the drive was only sent to Cokesbury residents, any OCU student can donate if they have something to give, Murphy said.
Four separate prizes are being offered as incentives to donate: a wire head scratcher, a multi-tool, a moleskine journal, and ceramic measuring spoons.
“For every donation you bring in, your name will be entered into a drawing for one of those prizes,” Murphy said.
Pan said she thinks the prizes give an incentive to donate more.
“It’s something where you could get something in return for something small,” she said.
If a student were to donate four items, they could choose which prize or prizes to enter for, Murphy said.
“You get to decide which one you want to be in the running for,” Murphy said. “They’re a little eclectic, and that’s why we’re letting people choose which one they want to be in the drawing for.”
Items can be dropped off anytime from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Cokesbury clubhouse.
Murphy said if a student can’t make that timeframe and has donations, a separate pick up can be arranged by email.
Donations will be accepted until 5 p.m. Dec. 15. Murphy can be contacted at dcmurphy@okcu.edu.
