Panhellenic Council officials included fraternities in their seasonal potluck dinner.
Festive Feast is the council’s annual thanksgiving celebration where Greek organizations are invited to a potluck dinner. Each organization is assigned a specific type of food for those attending to bring.
“I think this is just a great way for all of us to bond and hang out and get together,” said Isa Ramirez, dance performance senior and Panhellenic president. “And there’s nothing wrong with having more food after Thanksgiving. It’s great.”
This is the first year fraternities have been invited to attend. Ramirez said Levi Harrel, associate director of student development, proposed the idea, and it was approved by Panhellenic Council.
Harrel said the inclusion of fraternities is part of his attempt as advisor to unify sorority and fraternity experience with each other.
“Since becoming adviser, the approach that I’ve really tried to take is ‘How can we strengthen our overall fraternity and sorority communities?’” he said. “Now that fraternity and sorority life are under one umbrella, I want those events to focus on that, to bring the entirety of the community together.”
Ramirez said Harrel’s attempt to bring IFC and Panhellenic together makes communication easier between the organizations.
“It’s kind of nice that we have one supervisor because then we can do more joint things,” she said. “It was so hard to communicate with IFC and Panhellenic all the time because we were under different people, so since it’s coming down from one person to two organizations and then to all the other organizations, it just makes the communication a lot better.”
Entrees and beverages will also be supplied by Chick-fil-A.
“Everyone is so stressed after Thanksgiving break because there’s finals coming up, there’s shows, there’s Vespers, the Christmas show, and everyone just comes and enjoys themselves,” Ramirez said. “I’m really excited to see everyone kind of take a chill pill and hang out with each other, and also the food is just awesome.”
Between 80 and 150 people will attend, Ramirez said. She also said junior delegates of Panhellenic will be encouraged to take charge of managing the event.
Festive Feast will be from 7-9 p.m., or until food runs out, Nov. 29 in the Great Hall in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center. All members of Greek Life are invited to attend.
“It’s a heck of a lot of fun,” Harrel said. “All the food is eaten, it’s decimated. A great time to interact with your friends, enjoy some great food and just share some time and community.”
