Andrew Satterberg, second-year graduate student in tuba performance, has several interests aside from perfecting the glorious bellow of the most majestic brass instrument. This Q&A session provides a sneak peak into the mind of this music guru.
Q: What is your ultimate dream?
A: To inspire the lives of children past what their expectations are of themselves through music.
Q: What instruments do you play?
A: Tuba and piano are my main ones, but I play all of them except guitar.
Q: If you had to buy all of your clothing from one store, where would you go?
A: Goodwill. Easy. I do already.
Q: What is your biggest pet peeve?
A: Currently, I think it’s when people are disrespectful to their significant others.
Q: What is your dream vacation?
A: Fjords of Norway followed by helicopter tours of New Zealand.
Q: If you had to have a non conventional pet, what would you have and what would you name it?
A: Does it have to exist? I guess I’d pick an orangutan. It’d be more of a roommate than a pet. I’d name it “The Librarian.”
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: Star Wars: Episode V. The Star Wars series as a whole has some of my favorites. Five is the most important in the story. Cinematically, it was amazing. I wish I could have seen it on the movie theatre screen when it first came out.
Q: What is your least favorite type of music?
A: I instantly want to say typical country music, but I’m going to have to go with gangsta rap.
Q: If you had to perform your own concert as a singer, what would you sing?
A: I’d probably sing “The Vagabonds” by Ralph Von Williams. It’s from Songs of Travel.
Q: What’s your favorite board game?
A: Ohhhh, the tough questions. It changes based on what I just learned. My favorite right now is maybe “Diplomacy.” I want to play it again. I only have played it twice. If anyone is looking to play, I’m in.
Q: What is a skill that you wish you had?
A: Visual art like painting and sketching.
Q: If you had to describe your life in one food, what would you choose?
A: The Big-Ass Poutine from The Mule. There’s some excitement on top, like Sriracha and bacon, but it’s mostly just French fries and cheese.
