The Theta Psi chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The fraternity will host events April 21 to 23.
The celebration begins with a faculty appreciation lunch noon to 1 p.m. April 21 at Urban Market at 50 Penn Place. This is a chance for students to honor faculty who have supported them or for alumni to reconnect with faculty.
Members of Kappa Sigma have hosted events similar to the faculty appreciation lunch in years past. Student and faculty will pay for their own ticket and have the opportunity to sponsor the faculty they honor. Tickets are $10 plus a fee of $1.54.
Alumni will be given the opportunity to revisit the Kappa Sigma house during an open house at 3:00 p.m. Members will display selected items with connections to the chapter’s history.
Following the open house will be a dinner at 6:00 p.m.
There will be a Kappa Sigma golf tournament 8:00 a.m. April 22 at John Conrad Golf Course in Midwest City in memory of Robert Sigale, a Kappa Sigma alumni who died earlier this semester. Tickets are $60 plus a $4.29 fee.
Next will be OCU 30 Under 30 Brunch at 10:00 a.m followed by another open house at noon, a special initiation ceremony at 4:00 p.m., cocktail hour at 6:00 p.m., finest hour at 7:00 p.m., and an alumni mixer at 10:00 p.m.. There is a combined cost of $100 plus a $7.49 fee and a guest anniversary gift package of $15 plus a $1.82 fee.
The gift includes a t-shirt, bottle opener and koozie. Attendents can buy a Kappa Sigma Theta-Psi 50th Anniversary polo for $25 plus a $2.37.
All of these events lead up to the Kappa Sigma brunch 11:00 a.m. April 23. The brunch will feature presentations from members spanning across generations of the chapter. Representatives from Kappa Sigma international headquarters will be present.
Plans are tentative and subject to change, according to the Kappa Sigma Facebook page.
Colton Kastrup, Kappa Sigma president, said this event is meant to celebrate the past 50 years as an organization and the meeting of alumni.
“Kappa Sigma means everything to me,” Kastrup said. “Being the president during the 50th anniversary is exciting and nerve-wracking.”
Bobby Tankersley, psychology freshman and Kappa Sigma assistant treasurer, said he thinks it’s important to celebrate what Kappa Sigma has done for the community during the past 50 years.
He also said he is thankful for the bond of brotherhood of Kappa Sigma.
“Both of my brothers were in Greek organizations,” Tankersley said. “Being able to see the positives of Greek organizations like brotherhood was important for me in choosing my fraternity.”
