A 43-year-old student with a felony record was arrested again last month while he was on campus.
Juan Burrell was arrested Nov. 11 and charged Dec. 13 with one count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
Before his arrest, Burrell was studying psychology with a pre-law and Oxford plan and a minor in criminal justice. Fall 2016 was his first semester on campus.
Burrell was walking into Kramer School of Nursing West building when Lt. Joshua Pankowsky of the Oklahoma City University Police Department saw him and recognized him as a man three warrants out for his arrest, according to the OCUPD report. Lt. Pankowsky was aware of the warrants for Burrell’s arrest because it was brought to his attention during a recent investigation.
After confirming the warrants with Oklahoma County, Lt. Pankowsky approached Barrell and confirmed his identy, according to the police report. During the pat-down, Lt. Pankowsky found a clear baggie with a crystal substance that Burrell admitted was methamphetamine.
Lt. Pankowsky arrested Burrell on complaints of possession of a CDS on school property, as well as for his warrants. Burrell was still in Oklahoma County Jail on Dec. 14.
The arrest on campus was not the first time for Burrell to be arrested and charged with felonies. He was charged in September 2014 in Oklahoma County with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of methamphetamine. He pleaded guilty to both charges.
It is unclear whether Burrell lives on campus. A university official previously told Student Publications that administrators were monitoring Burrell’s criminal status.
