With the implementation of Facebook’s “Live Video” feature, users are able to post videos of themselves doing whatever their imagination construes with their friends being able to tune in and watch as they are making the video.
Some people may choose to give their live audiences a daily life comedy or show off a singing talent, while some choose to use this feature as a way to be heard and with intentions to make a difference.
One such example of making a difference is given by Chandler Hardy, economics junior and current panhellenic president. In Chats with Chandler she takes time out of her schedule to interview strong women about their unique perspectives of the world and their experiences within it.
“Currently Chats with Chandler: Strong Women Series focuses on strong women that I have identified in my life. These women talk about the events in their life that have formed their individual outlook on the world. I have found that women are viewed in a negative light especially over social media and I have set out to change that,” she said. “It is rare to find women who constantly build each other up and support their friends’ successes. In society it is often women who are pitted against each other for the attention of others. Chats with Chandler focuses on the positive contributions women have made to their immediate community whether it is tangible or emotional.”
Keziah Williamson, acting junior, praises Hardy and urges others to take the time to watch her show. She said:
I was in the second episode, which was fun because I got to share some of my own experiences about being a strong woman. I appreciate the fact that she is trying to implement Miss Oklahoma platform of Building Strong Girls in all aspects of her life and not just when she’s on stage at a pageant. The chats exemplify who Chan is on and off stage and I think they represent her desire to become a stronger woman herself. I absolutely encourage others to watch Chats with Chan because within them, Chandler is encouraging those who watch to uplift the women in their lives and to find strength and value within yourself.”
Hardy said it is one of those things where she receives as much as she gives.
“Being able to talk about your strengths on a platform that is broadcast live on the internet is a brave action. I applaud the women I interview and someday aspire to be as strong as them,” she said.
Chats with Chandler: Strong Women Series airs every two weeks on Thursday via Hardy’s Facebook.
