The campus kicked off Homecoming with a carnival-themed rally Oct. 24 on the quad.
Homecoming will last two weeks this year. Organizations will participate in banner, structure, window painting, and Lipsync competititions, using the theme “Something Old, Something New, Something Bold, and Something Blue.” Competitors include Greek life organizations and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT).
Banners were submitted Oct. 21, and students said they are already pumped about the rest of Homecoming week.
“It’s an opportunity to show school spirit, and I can’t wait to see what everyone brings to the table.” said Madelyn Yoder, dance universal sopposite. “I am ready for my second year of Homecoming with my OCU stars!”
Student Activities Council announced the nominees for Homecoming King and Queen at the kickoff. The nominees for Queen are:
– Alpha Chi Omega’s Courtney Beyer
– Alpha Phi’s Halston Strange
– Gamma Phi Beta’s Monica Thompson
– Phi Mu’s Sydney Hughes
The nominees for King are:
– Kappa Sigma’s Zack Travers
– Lambda Chi Alpha’s Brade Bradshaw
– FIJI’s Gage Rancich
Voting ends 5 p.m. Oct. 28.
SAC designated three sporting events as Homecoming games. The volleyball game is 7 p.m. Oct. 26 in Henry J. Freede Wellness Center. The women’s soccer game is 3 p.m. Oct. 29 at Stars Field, and the men’s soccer game is 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at Stars Field. The games are free of charge for students.
One student said she is impressed by all OCU students and athletes.
“The variety and level of talent showcased by everyone during Homecoming is truly incredible,” said Jessica Blume, dance universal sophomore.
The window decorating competition is from 1:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Student Lounge in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center.
Uptown 23rd is an evening where restaurants around OCU offer discounts for students, who earn organization points by eating there. The night will take place from 6 p.m.- 10 p.m. Nov. 2 along 23rd St.
Structure building will begin at 10 p.m. Nov. 3 on the quad.
Homecoming will conclude with Lipsync and the announcements of king and queen, as well as competition winners, at 8 p.m. Nov. 4 in Henry J. Freede Wellness Center.
